ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The George Mason men's golf team opened its fall season over the weekend with a seventh-place showing at the Navy Fall Invitational, held Sept. 7-8 at the par-71, 6,611-yard US Naval Academy Golf Course. The Patriots fired a 308-293=601 (+33) overall for the two-day tournament. Winthrop, one of 15 schools competing at the annual event, won with a seven-over par 575 (285-290). Host Navy tied Towson for second place at nine-over par.
Junior Craig Mason (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) paced the Patriots with a two-round total of 144 (74-70), which tied him for 10th out of 76 contestants. Senior Brian Marfori (Fairfax Station, VA/Bishop O'Connell) shot a 149, including a career-low 70 on day two to finish tied for 26th. Junior Carl Jacobson (Moline, IL/Moline) fired a 153 (77-76), while senior Ben Adlard (Cape Town, South Africa/Pinelands) and junior Ben Hogan (Centreville, VA/Centreville) each scored 156.
The Patriots take a week off and return to action Sept. 20-22 at the James Madison Golf Invitational at the Lakeview Golf Course in Harrisonburg, VA.
