Beau Donahue begins his second season as volunteer assistant coach of George Mason Wrestling for the 2019-20 season.

In 2018-19, Donahue helped guide the Patriots to their best season in 11 years, finishing the season with an overall record of 9-7, including a mark of 3-3 against Eastern Wrestling League opponents.  Mason finished the season with a winning dual record for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

The Patriots finished third at the 2019 Eastern Wrestling League Championships with 56.5 points, the highest finish in the EWL Championships in program history.  Six Mason wrestlers reached the evening session, with four in the championship match and two competing in third-place matches.

Mason redshirt senior Tejon Anthony claimed the first EWL title in program history, winning the championship at 149 pounds, while redshirt senior Matthew Voss placed second at 285 pounds, redshirt sophomore Eli Spencer placed second at 197 pounds and freshman Kolby Ho placed second at 157 pounds.

The Patriots had three wrestlers qualify for the 2019 NCAA Championships for the second straight year, with Voss (285), Anthony (149) and redshirt junior Colston DiBlasi (165) representing Mason at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Donahue recently finished a four-year wrestling career at N.C. State, where he was recruited and coached by Mason Head Coach Frank Beasley.

A Centreville, Va. native, Donahue ranked in the top 20 each of his final three seasons and was a NCAA Qualifier while wrestling for the Wolfpack.  He placed at the ACC Championships twice.  In addition, Donahue was recognized as a Caterpillar Scholar Athlete all four years in pursuit of earning his Bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Donahue was crowned Virginia State Champion three times at nearby Westfield High School and was a three-time Washington Post All-Met selection.

“I was fortunate to be able to recruit and subsequently coach Beau for four years,” Beasley said.  “Having been one of the best wrestlers this area has produced, I am excited that he will return to his northern Virginia roots to begin his coaching career.  He will be able to hit the ground running as he knows the details of my system and will be able to model that for the team.”
