Patriots On The Road to Battle Navy

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team is back in action for the final road dual of the season when it faces Navy on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md.
Mason (3-10, 0-6 EWL) fell to Cleveland State 29-18 at Woodling Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio and then suffered a 41-0 setback to Edinboro at McComb Fieldhouse in Edinboro, Pa. on Jan. 27. 
The Patriots earned victories in four bouts against Cleveland State in the first match of the day.
Redshirt senior Ibrahim Bunduka recorded his 17th victory of the season with a 15-5 major decision at 125 pounds, while redshirt junior Tejon Anthony registered a 17-7 major decision at 149 pounds.
Redshirt freshman Eli Spencer notched his second pin of the season at 194 pounds and redshirt junior Matthew Voss picked up a major decision at 285 pounds for his team-leading 18th win of the season.
Last season against Navy, the Patriots won three of the first four bouts of the match but fell to the Midshipmen 26-13.  Bunduka won by decision at 125 pounds and Voss posted a decision at 285 pounds. 
The Patriots are back at home on Sunday at 3 p.m. when they host Franklin & Marshall at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.

Navy has a 7-2 overall dual record, including 3-1 against Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) opponents.  The Midshipmen are 4-0 at home and 3-2 on the road this season.
Last time out, the Midshipmen won eight straight bouts and defeated Old Dominion 26-8 at Ted Constant Center in Norfolk, Va. 
Senior Jadaen Bernstein (19-3) picked up a 7-3 decision against Old Dominion senior Seldon Wright at 174 pounds.  The win was the 108th of Bernstein's career and moved him into a tie for 10th on Navy's all-time wins list.
Navy has won all four of its home duals this season, including a 26-10 win over Bucknell on Jan. 1 at Wesley Brown Field House and a 29-10 victory over Maryland on Jan. 12 at Alumni Hall.
In the NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings, junior Nicholas Gil (26-6) is No. 20 at 141 pounds, senior Zach Davis is No. 28 at 157 pounds, senior Drew Daniels (21-3) is No. 19 at 165 pounds, Bernstein is No. 8 at 174 pounds and senior Michael Coleman (26-5) ranks No. 14 at 184 pounds. 
Daniels has recorded a 7-1 dual record, while Coleman has a 7-0 mark in duals this season.  Navy has 15 wrestlers that have registered double-digit wins this season, including five who have at least 20 victories.

Navy has had two Heisman Trophy winners in the history of its football program.  Running back Joe Bellino won the Heisman in 1960 and quarterback Roger Stauback won the Heisman in 1963.
