Off the Course with Jennifer Nakamura

FAIRFAX, Va. - GoMason.com went off the course with Jennifer Nakamura, a redshirt junior from Fresno, California.  Nakamura most recently finished third for Mason and 93rd overall at the Princeton Invitational with a time of 23:07.  The distance runner has also finished in the top three of every other competition this season for the Patriots.  Nakamura has also had success in track and field for the Patriots, as she currently holds the record for the 3000m steeplechase.

GoMason.com: Why did you choose to run for George Mason?

Nakamura:  I chose to run for George Mason because it was always my goal to run in college, and I wanted to experience living on the East Coast, since I am originally from California.

GoMason.com: What are your goals for the remainder of the season?

Nakamura:  My goals for the remainder of this season are to place in the top 25 at the conference meet and to improve my place from last year at the regional meet. It would also be nice to run a PR in both the 5K and the 6K.

GoMason.com: Who is your inspiration for running, who do you look up to the most?

Nakamura:  I would have to say that the person I look up to the most AND my inspiration for running is my roommate, best friend, teammate, and other half, Lauren Givens. She is always there for me whether it involves running, school, or personal issues. Whenever I lay in bed at night getting stressed out, I look over at her sleeping across the room from me and know it's all going to be okay.

GoMason.com: How do you spend your free time?

Nakamura: Well, I don't have much free time with running, school, and work, so I spend the majority of my free time sleeping. I have gotten to the point where I can take a 3 hour nap with no trouble at all. I also like to read books that haven't been assigned for class. Lastly, I like to watch the show "The Office" with my roommate, Lauren (mentioned previously).
