Mason Golf in Fourth Place After Day One of Navy Fall Classic

Annapolis, Md.—The George Mason University Men's Golf team opened their season with a strong start to the Navy Fall Classic Saturday.  The Patriots currently sit in fourth place after posting an overall score of 293 through the first round at the par-71 Naval Academy Golf Course.

Three Patriots are in the individual top 30, as the upperclassmen are already demonstrating exemplary play for several newcomers to the team.

Casey Thompson, the junior from Stephens City, Va., is tied for first overall after posting a three-under 68.

Senior Josh Apple is also in contention after posting a one-over 72, good for a tie in 11th place.  Junior Alec Kormanec also had a solid day, posting a four-over 75, tied for 26th place.

The Patriots sit only 10 strokes behind overall team leader, Lafayette College, leading the tournament with an overall score of 283.  The University of Delaware is not far behind with an overall score of 286, followed by St. Francis (Pa.) with an overall score of 291.

Mason will look to build off their success Sunday, as the two-round Classic wraps up.
