Box Score

DALLAS, Texas - Sophomore forward Irvin Martinez's goal 11:22 into the match proved to be the game-winner as George Mason (2-2-1) shut out No. 15 Tulsa (2-3-1) by a final score of 1-0 on the final day of action at the 2008 Prego's Express Italian Men's Soccer Invitational, hosted by SMU at Westcott Field in Dallas, Texas.

In the 11th minute of play, sophomore midfielder Anthony Han, who earned the first start of his career at George Mason in the match, sent the ball to the top of the box. Martinez took the well-placed cross and knocked it past Tulsa goalkeeper Tyrel Lacey and inside the left post to give Mason an early 1-0 advantage.

Despite being outshot by Tulsa 12-7, the Patriots' defensive unit stifled the Golden Hurricane attack throughout the match. Junior Sean Kelley played all 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves on the way to his second shutout of the season.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, both Fro Adu and Irvin Martinez were named to the 2008 Prego's Express Italian Men's Soccer Invitational All-Tournament Team. Adu started both matches at the tournament, earning his first two starts of the season. Irvin Martinez tallied a goal on three shots.

In the second match of the day, host SMU, the fourth-ranked team in the country, defeated Oakland 3-1 to take the tournament title. The Mustangs remained undefeated with the win, improving to 5-0-1, while at the same time snapping the perfect record of the Golden Grizzlies, who opened the season with five consecutive wins.

George Mason returns home for its next contest, taking on in-state rival Richmond at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at George Mason Stadium.
