FAIRFAX, Va. – Former George Mason pitcher Chris O'Grady has been called up by the Miami Marlins from the New Orleans Baby Cakes of the Pacific Coast League.
O'Grady, a native of Congers, N.Y., was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 10th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft. He is the second-highest drafted player in Mason program history.
The left-hander played for the Green and Gold from 2009 through 2012 and finished his Mason career with a record of 8-4 with 15 saves. He ranks third all-time in program history in saves (15) and is also among Mason's all-time leaders in appearances (52), innings pitched (153), strikeouts (156) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.18).
O'Grady, who was signed by the Marlins in May, will look to make his major league debut with Miami playing a three-game series against the Giants in San Francisco this weekend. This season, he is 3-5 with a 3.29 ERA and 54 strikeouts over 54.2 innings of work in 12 games (9 starts) with triple-A New Orleans. O'Grady has appeared in 176 minor league games, posting a 22-20 record with a 3.24 ERA and 10 saves.
