Mason to Open 2017-18 Season vs. Lafayette

2017-18 Schedule (Games Announced Thus Far)

FAIRFAX, Va. –
The George Mason University men's basketball team will open the 2017-18 season at home vs. Patriot League foe Lafayette College. The Patriots and Leopards will do battle inside EagleBank Arena on Friday, November 10.
 
Lafayette returns seven of its top eight scorers from the 2016-17 season and nine of 12 letter winners overall heading into the 2017-18 campaign. The team will be led by senior and 2017 All-Patriot League Third Team selection Matt Klinewski, who averaged 16.0 points and shot 51.3 percent from the floor last season.
 
Mason is 1-0 all time against the Leopards, with the lone meeting coming on Dec. 29, 1993. The Patriots won the game, 99-83, as part of the Iona Classic in New Rochelle, N.Y. During the contest, Mason set a school record that still stands while hoisting 37 3-point attempts.
 
Mason's 2017-18 home schedule also will include games against some of the top teams in the Atlantic 10, including Dayton, VCU and Saint Bonaventure, as well as local rivals George Washington and Richmond.

About The Patriots
George Mason put together a turnaround campaign in 2016-17 while putting together the 13th 20-win season in school history. In head coach Dave Paulsen's second season leading the program, Mason set a new program record for Atlantic 10 victories (9) and its 20 overall wins were the most by the program since 2012-13. After winning 11 games total and five A-10 contests in 2015-16, Mason ranked as of the nation's 20 most improved teams this past season. The Patriots return three starters and eight letter winners overall heading into the 2017-18 campaign.
