Women’s Tennis Welcomes Six for 2017-18

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's tennis head coach Stephen Curtis has announced the addition of six student-athletes to the roster for the 2017-18 season.
 
The talented group of incoming freshmen includes Hannah Cianciola (Canfield, Ohio), Brianna Gibbs (Holmdel, N.J.), Kayleigh Hahn (Dacula, Ga.), Christine McCarthy (Menlo Park, Calif.), Anna Ugne Radzeviciute (Vilnius, Lithuania) and Hannah Yang (Springfield, Va.).
 
"These players will add a lot to our team," Curtis said. "They all have a great deal of experience playing against high level-opponents. I am looking forward to working with them in the fall. They are going to make great teammates for our returning players and add to the overall team depth. They will be tremendous additions to our Mason family in the classroom as well as on the tennis court ."

Hannah Cianciola | 5-9 | Canfield, Ohio/Canfield
Two-time first team all-state (2013, 2016) and two-time second team all-state pick (2014, 2015)…2016 state doubles champion and three-time district champion…four-year state qualifier…four-time first team all-conference…2016 team captain…ranked in top-360 players nationally (Tr.net)…member of the National Honor Society…Favorite players are Venus Williams and Roger Federer.
 
Coach Curtis on Cianciola: "Hannah is a lefty who teamed with her younger sister to win the Ohio State doubles championship."
 
Brianna Gibbs | 5-3 | Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel
Chosen Shore Conference Player of the Year…Ranked as top-5 player in New Jersey, top-20 in the USTA East  and top-180 nationally…USTA Zonals in 2014 and 2016…earned six varsity letters in tennis…favorite players are Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal.
 
Coach Curtis on Gibbs: "Brianna is a highly-recruited player out of New Jersey who has a big power game."
 
Kayleigh Hahn | 6-1 | Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek
Three-time all-region (singles) and two-time all-county (singles) selection…two-time team captain…ranked among top-350 players nationally via Tr.net…Rankes as top-6 player in Gwinnett County in three high school seasons…2016 Team MVP…four-time scholar-athlete selection…Earned three honor bars for outstanding GPA…Member of the Beta Club…Favorite players are Angelique Kerber and Roger Federer.
 
Coach Curtis on Hahn: "Kayleigh is a tall lefty from Atlanta who constructs points very well and can finish at the net."
 
Christine McCarthy | 5-5 | Menlo Park, Calif./Saint Francis – IMG Academy
WCAL and CCS doubles champion en route to top-300 national ranking during sophomore campaign…ranked in top-315 by Tr.net…graduate of prestigious IMG Academy…High Honor Roll accolades…three-year letter winner.
 
Coach Curtis on McCarthy: "Christine is a solid player who is from California but has been training at the IMG Academy in Florida."
 
Anna Ugne Radzeviciute | 5-9 | Vilnius, Lithuania/Walter Johnson
Four-year letter winner…team captain…two-time Scholar-Athlete award winner…part of division champion team as a senior…ranked In top-100 of the Mid-Atlantic Region…mixed doubles semifinalist for Montgomery County…member of Advanced Curriculum for Excellence in Science Scholars program...favorite players are Agnieszka Radwanska and Ricardas Berankis.
 
Coach Curtis on Radzeviciute: "Anna lettered all four years for the Maryland tennis power Walter Johnson High."
 
Hannah Yang | 5-8 | Springfield, Va.
State semifinalist and regional finalist in both singles and doubles as a senior…Three-time district champion (2x doubles, 1x singles)…All-Met honorable mention…USTA Mid-Atlantic Zonal Team…Ranked in top-200 nationally (Tr.net)…Two-time all-district selection…team captain…Honor roll accolades in every semester of high school career…Favorite player is Eugenie Bouchard…Sister of Mason tennis aluma Morgan Yang.
 
Coach Curtis on Yang: "Hannah is a local player who has a consistent all court game who works points very well."
