FAIRFAX, Va. – The 2020 National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship, which will take place May 7-9, will be hosted by George Mason University at EagleBank Arena, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

It will mark 30 years since Mason last hosted the NCAA Championship in the respective sport. In 1990 the Patriots hosted Long Beach State, USC, Rutgers-Newark and Ball State.

The announcement was part of the NCAA's release of more than 600 host sites for preliminary rounds and finals of predetermined championships in divisions I, II and III to be held from 2017-18 through 2021-22.

The NCAA received more than 3,000 bid submissions from member schools, conferences, sports commissions and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 84 of the NCAA's 90 championships. A total of 613 sites were awarded for this cycle. The respective NCAA sports committees and the divisional championship cabinets and committees reviewed the bid proposals and selected the sites.

"[Hosting a national championship] helps on so many fronts," Mason head coach Jay Hosack said. "[It helps] the local community to [experience] volleyball at the highest level in their backyard; [it helps] with recruiting, to have the opportunity to play for a national championship in their own gym; and with the campus, to rally around their own team's quest for a national title in their own house.

"It's huge for us and we are going to rally around it the best way we can."

In addition to Mason, the NCAA announced three additional institutions that will host the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship in the years to come. Those include Long Beach State (2019), Ohio State (2021), which will host this season, May 4-6, and UCLA, who will host for a record 15th time in 2022.

Mason has hosted several NCAA first- and second-round events on campus in its 50-year history but the only NCAA Championship other than the 1990 men's volleyball one was in women's soccer. In 1985, the Patriots claimed the national women's soccer title on its home turf at George Mason Stadium.
