PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Former George Mason University men's basketball guard
Marquise Moore put together an outstanding weekend at the Portsmouth Invitational while helping his team post a 2-1 record in the event.
Moore ranked in the top-20 of the tournament field in rebounds, defensive rebounds, blocks, free throw percentage, 3-point field goal percentage and minutes played.
Over the three games, Moore averaged 12.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.7 blocks while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 91 percent from the free throw line. He also ranked third on the K&D Rounds team in minutes played (27.7 mpg).
The Portsmouth Invitational is one of the preeminent postseason events for college basketball seniors as they prepare for NBA workouts and future professional careers. Each year for 65 years, the P.I.T has invited 64 of the best college basketball players from across the nation to participate in a four-day, 12 game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team.
"Portsmouth was a great experience. I learned so much about the ins and outs of the NBA and what it takes to play at that level," Moore said. "I learned how to adjust to different defenses and how to recognize different schemes. Having an NBA player, Keith Bogans, as my assistant coach helped a lot. He broke down my game and gave me advice on areas where I can improve."
Moore improved in each game that he played over the course of the weekend. In the team's 96-83 win on Saturday, he posted 14 points (5-9 FG), six rebounds, two blocks and two assists in 30 minutes on the floor.
In Sunday's 92-84 victory, the Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player tallied tournament highs in points (16) and rebounds while playing a team high 32 minutes. He made 6-of-10 field goal attempts, dished out three assists and tallied a steal in his third game in three days.
