FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wresting team fell to No. 22 Oregon State 32-9 on Thursday in the home opener at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.

Mason (1-3) senior Ibrahim Bunduka won by forfeit at 125 pounds to put the Patriots in front of the Beavers 6-0.

Oregon State (2-0) recorded victories in the next four bouts.  The Beavers won a 12-0 major decision at 133 pounds, by fall at 141 pounds and picked up an 11-6 decision at 149 pounds.

"I was more pleased this week than I have been the last couple of dual meets," Mason head coach Frank Beasley said.  "The score didn't reflect the effort that we put in today.  Last week our effort wasn't what it needed to be and I challenged these guys to respond with a great effort tonight.  They came out and they had a great effort."

At 157 pounds, freshman Bryce Reddington made his Mason debut at 157 pounds, but fell to Oregon State's Hunter Willits by decision, 10-5 as the Beavers increased their match score lead to 16-6.

At 165 pounds, Mason freshman Creed Lumpp recorded a takedown with less than 10 seconds to go in the match for a 6-4 decision over Beavers sophomore Billy Bigelow to cut the Oregon State match score advantage to 16-9.

"We've been talking a lot about game plans," Beasley said.  "Creed more than anybody executed his game plan.  Because he did that, in the third period it started showing through and it paid off.  I was really excited for him, bumping up a weight class and being a bright spot for us today."

Oregon State earned victories in the final four bouts of the match.

The Beavers recorded a 12-4 major decision at 174 pounds, a 16-1 technical fall at 184 pounds and an 8-0 major decision at 197 pounds to make the score 29-9.

In the final bout of the night, Mason sophomore Matthew Voss notched two takedowns in the first period to build a 4-1 lead over Beavers senior Cody Crawford at 285 pounds, but Crawford came back to register a 9-5 decision in a hard-fought match.

The Patriots are back in action on Saturday when they compete in the Navy Classic beginning at 9 a.m. in Annapolis, Md.
