COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The George Mason wrestling team dropped both of its duals on Sunday afternoon, falling 32-6 to Campbell in the first match and 28-9 to Maryland in the second match of the day at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Md.

Mason (1-2) senior Ibrahim Bunduka (1-1) trailed Campbell freshman Korbin Meink 5-1 heading into the third period at 125 pounds.  Bunduka cut the lead in the third, but fell by 6-4 decision.

After Campbell (2-2) picked up a major decision at 133 pounds, Mason junior Tejon Anthony (2-0) posted the lone win for the Patriots at 141 pounds.

Anthony scored an early takedown and four near-fall points to build an 8-2 lead over Campbell sophomore Jonathan Ryan after the first period.  Anthony notched his first pin of the season four minutes into the bout to cut the Camels match score lead to 7-6.

"The day didn't start off the way we wanted it to and he went out there and performed that first match," Mason head coach Frank Beasley said.  "He wrestled really well and got his offense going.  I was happy with the way he competed."

In an offensive match at 149 pounds, Mason sophomore Matthew Raines and Campbell freshman Patrick Burton were tied 4-4 after the first period and 7-7 heading into the final frame.  Burton went on to an 11-8 decision.

Campbell (2-2) went on to register victories in the final seven bouts of the contest.

Campbell added a 7-4 decision at 157 pounds, 20-3 technical fall at 165 pounds, 14-4 major decision at 174 pounds, 5-4 decision at 184 pounds, 3-0 decision at 197 pounds and 12-4 major decision at 285 pounds to secure a 32-6 victory.

In the second match of the day, Maryland opened with a win at 125 pounds to take an early 3-0 match score advantage.

At 133 pounds, Tapia (2-1) scored a takedown with a minute to go in the second period to take a 4-2 lead over Terrapins freshman Michael Doetsch.  Tapia scored the only two points of the third period for a 6-2 decision to tie the match score 3-3.

"I think his true character came out when he got dealt some adversity," Beasley said of the freshman's win at 133 pounds.  "He responded and really got things going and I was really happy to see that."

In match that featured plenty of offense at 141 pounds, Anthony (2-1) had a 7-6 lead over Maryland junior Ryan Diehl heading into the third.  Diehl, ranked 14th in the nation, scored a takedown and four near fall points in the third to earn a 12-8 decision.

Maryland claimed seven straight bouts in the match from 141 pounds through 197 pounds before Mason junior Matthew Voss won by forfeit at 285 pounds.

The Patriots competed in two duals on the same day for the first time this season.

"It's something they need to get ready for because that's what the Eastern Wrestling League tournament is like and that's what the national tournament is like," said Beasley of multiple matches on the same day.  "You're going to have two to three matches in one day.  That's something we'll improve on as we go."

The Patriots are back on the mat for the home opener on Thursday, Nov. 16, hosting Oregon State at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.
