Men's Volleyball 1/23/2017 5:41:00 PM
FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University's men's volleyball team swept the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) with redshirt senior Jack Wilson being named Offensive Player of the Week while senior Johnny Gomez earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor.

This way, opposite hitter Wilson and libero Gomez become Mason's first duo to earn a second conference award sweep after doing so for the first time in the final weekend of the 2016 regular season.

Wilson was Mason's main offensive contributor in both of last weekend's matches. The Midlothian, Va. native recorded his best performances this season with 14 kills in the sweep over King Universtiy and 18 kills in the heartbreaking defeat to No. 9 Loyola University Chicago. Wilson hit .230 over the course of Mason's first home weekend in 2017 and added two service aces, four digs and three blocks for a total of 35.5 points.

After picking up four digs and an assist in one set against the Tornado on Friday, Gomez convinced Mason head coach Jay Hosack to split the libero duties between him and sophomore Seth Blevins against Loyola as well. Over the course of the five-set contest, Gomez recorded match-high 11 digs – most by him this season – and added another assist.

These are Mason's first two EIVA accolades of the season.
