The George Mason men's basketball team welcomes Lebanon Valley College to EagleBank Arena for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday. The Patriots were permitted to schedule this game as part of the NCAA's exempted Gulf Coast Showcase. The Patriots will compete in the Gulf Coast Showcase next Monday through Wednesday, November 21-23. Mason's first game in the tournament is against the Houston Cougars.

The Patriots and Flying Dutchmen have met once, but it was almost 40 years ago in the Fairfax Rotary Tournament on December 28, 1977. Mason, a member of the Mason-Dixon Conference at the time, soundly defeated Lebanon Valley, 83-48, under Coach John Linn. It was also the Patriots last year of competition in the NAIA before the team's inaugural season in NCAA Division I. The Flying Dutchmen are members of NCAA Division III MAC Commonwealth Conference.

Mason will look to even their record after dropping the season opener to Towson, 67-61, Saturday night at EagleBank Arena. The Patriots were led by seniors Jalen Jenkins and Marquise Moore, scoring 19 and 13 points respectively against the Tigers. Sophomore Otis Livingston II added 11 points and three assists in the loss. Three of the Patriots five freshman saw time on the court; Justin Kier added four points, Ian Boyd two points and Karmari Newman played five minutes.

Lebanon Valley is led by Andy Orr, named Preseason All-American by D3hoops.com. The returning MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, Orr will lead an LVC team that won 16 games a year ago and made its first MAC Commonwealth postseason appearance since 2010-11. The junior also earned First-Team All-Region recognition from D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) last spring.

George Mason is celebrating a significant milestone all season long. The Patriots will be recognizing 50 years of George Mason men's basketball. Since Mason first took the court on Dec. 6, 1966, the Patriots (first called the Marauders) have played more than 1,400 basketball games.
