Jalen Jenkins and sophomore
Otis Livingston II have been elected captains of the 2016-17 George Mason men's basketball team by their teammates and coaching staff.
"We're excited for Jalen and Otis to serve as this year's captains," said Coach
Dave Paulsen. "They have both worked hard and have embraced their positions as leaders. They have different personalities and styles and should complement each other well."
Jenkins has been a strength underneath the basket in his three seasons at Mason, averaging 5.3 rebounds per game and blocking 82 shots. As a junior, the Brooklyn, N.Y. native averaged 7.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He poured in a season-high 20 points at Davidson (1/9) and finished the season tying his season-high with 11 boards against Saint Louis in A-10 Tournament.
"Jalen made great strides during the second half of last season. He became more consistent in his practice habits that allowed for improved game performances. He is a vocal leader with a high basketball IQ."
Livingston, an Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection, led all freshmen in scoring in the conference averaging 11.9 points per game. The only Patriot to start all 32 games in 2015-16, he led the team in scoring, assists (114) and steals (23) in freshman campaign. The Linden, N.J. native finished the regular season tying his career-high of 21 points against Richmond (3/5), hitting a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range.
"Otis had a fantastic freshman year. He is a relentless worker and is as passionate and driven to succeed as any player I have ever coached. His energy and enthusiasm is contagious to the rest of our team."
